Python is an object oriented high level programming language developed by Guido van Rossum that is used for variety of purposes. In order to work on Python we first have to download and install it on our machine. Below are the simple steps that will help you to perform the same:
Install Python on Windows
STEP-1: Go to https://www.python.org/downloads/
STEP-2: You will find two versions of Python available for you to use
a) Python 2.x – This is a legacy version of Python
b) Python 3.x – This is the current version of the Python which was released in 2008.
STEP-3: Click on the OS Name besides the “Looking for Python with a different OS?” text which would be Windows, Linux/Unix or Mac.
STEP-4: I am using Windows OS so I clicked the Windows link. In the downloads page you can see various versions listed. I clicked on the “Download Windows x86-64 web-based installer” which downloaded a 30 MB exe file.
STEP-5: Right click on the python-3.x.x-amd64.exe file and select Run as administrator option.
STEP-6: In Windows, if you get a User Account Control message as shown below click “Yes”
STEP-7: In the Python installation launch screen, don’t forget to select the “Add Python 3.x to PATH” checkbox before you click Install Now button. This will automatically add the python path to the environment variables which will help you to launch python in the command prompt from any folder.
STEP-8: After the installation is successful you can launch the Python Interpreter from the Start Menu
Open a command prompt, type python and press Enter key.
You also get an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) along with the installation called IDLE. It’s basically an editor to run your python code instead of launching a command window, you can actually use this nice editor to create and run your python programs.
Now to check if your installation has been successful type 6 + 7 next to the three greater than symbols as shown below which should give the sum of the two numbers.
Now to exit python, just type quit() and press Enter key
Press CTRL + Z and press Enter key
